Playwright, critic, and friend Terry Pace sent me the following notice today for two Hallowe'en events in the Florence/Muscle Shoals, Georgia metropolitan area that happen tonight and on Monday night. If you're in Lauderdale County try to catch these evenings of eerie entertainment! !
Pillar of Fire and the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library are teaming
up for two terrifying evenings of pre-Halloween entertainment at the
library, located at 350 N. Wood Ave. in downtown Florence.
The first free program, LONG AFTER MIDNIGHT: CLASSIC TALES FROM MASTERS OF THE MACABRE, will take place in the library’s conference room at 7 tonight (Thursday, Oct. 25).
The evening will include readings by Will Stutts (Washington Irving’s THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW),
Bill Foster (Ambrose Bierce’s THE DAMNED THING),
Nancy Sanford (Edgar Allan Poe’s poems THE HAUNTED PALACE and A DREAM
WITHIN A DREAM)
and Terry Pace (Ray Bradbury’s THE THING AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS).
The second event – a free screening of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925), starring silent-screen legend Lon Chaney (“The Man of a Thousand Faces”) – will take place at the library at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The PHANTOM evening will also include screenings of the vintage Bugs Bunny cartoon HAIR-RAISING HARE (1946), Buster Keaton in the silent-screen supernatural comedy THE HAUNTED HOUSE, (1921) and previews of upcoming Pillar of Fire activities.
Pillar of Fire’s annual Sinister Silent Auction (featuring signed Bradbury books and other rare items related to Halloween and the horror genre) will open on the evening of the readings and conclude at the end of the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA screening.
