Countdown Day 4: Treats I held onto for ya

Today I'm sharing stuff I meant to share last year, but didn't get around to. Here are pictures from my favorite local supermarket, taken October of last year.

The signs seen below were all hand-painted, and draw not only from traditional imagery but also classic horror films, a touch I really liked.

Below is a hipster Frankenstein Monster, who is hungrily eyeing a cake (which appears to have onions on it!) that rests on some of the Strickfaden equipment that gave him life:

Detail of a reusable shopping bag:

Each department had its own jack-o'-lanterns, too. Here are the best ones:

Notice the Texas Chainsaw Massacre-inspired sign in the back.

I love it when businesses show some flair when decorating for Halloween; makes shopping more fun.

I'll close with a spooky thought: I saw Jake Gyllenhall in the store last week, and spoke to him. (He's in town filming a movie.) He was very nice--friendly and polite. But it hit me--he looks just like k.d. lang! And weirder still--you never see them in the same place at the same time.

I suspect pod people and Area 51 are somehow mixed up in this mystery.

A puzzling sign

On my way home tonight I saw a sign for a "vegan and raw cafe." Okay, I can understand going out for a vegan meal...but the raw part of the restaurant experience mystifies me. ('Cause I'm sure by "raw" they don't mean sushi!)

"Look, an apple on a plate! Man, I sure can't get that at home!"

"Carrot AND celery sticks, together? Bravo, Chef Alec, bravo!"

Which reminds me--a friend of mine once asked for honey at vegan's home. Big mistake. She was told "No honey--bees are enslaved!"

Of course, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I have to wonder which side that person would have rooted for while watching this movie:
